Ahi Tuna Capsizes Hawaiian Angler’s Boat, Drags Him Underwater
Sometimes you get the fish and sometimes the fish gets you. Last Friday, 54-year-old Anthony Wichman was fishing 14 miles off the shore of Kauai in the Hawaiian archipelago when he hooked a 230-pound ahi tuna. He won the hour-long fight that ensued, but not without a last act of resistance from the fish. As Wichman attempted to bring the tuna on board, it suddenly dived and overturned his 14-foot boat.
Two times is the lucky charm. The second-annual 2013 Blue Marlin Grand Championship, held at The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, not only broke two state marlin records but also featured some of the best fishing ever seen in the Gulf of Mexico. The event concluded Sunday as more than $1,035,000 in prize money was awarded.
A photograph found in a Florida barn and e-mailed to Augusta author Bill Baab might show the bass George W. Perry caught in Telfair County, Ga., on June 2, 1932.
An old mystery took a tantalizing new turn last Sunday on the 81st anniversary of the day a young Georgia farmer landed what became the world-record largemouth bass. It was a photo, grainy and stained, depicting a thin young man in overalls, smiling broadly and holding a mammoth bass.
The photograph was dated June 2, 1932 – and the man in the picture was George W. Perry.
